this is me!
My name is Dave. I am the owner/operator of M.C. Fish Entertainment. Entertainment is in my blood. My father was in show business his whole life. As a teenager, he got his start in NY's Catskills (think "Dirty Dancing"). As a kid growing up and into adulthood, I was always around all the heavyweights of music and Hollywood. I would get to see all the inner workings, behind-the-scenes rehearsals and operations of TV and radio studios as well as some of the biggest showrooms in Vegas, Atlantic City and beyond! As kids, when we would return to school each fall, the teachers would ask us what we did last summer. All my friends would say Disney World or water parks or the beach. Then I would say, "Well I lived with Liza Minnelli for 2 months in Las Vegas." The teachers probably thought "Sure David. Next!"
I never really liked the spotlight or all the sprinting from paparazzi that I had to do with Dad. But I sure did love the entertainment side of things! Other than my number one inspiration, Dad being involved in music, having met some powerhouse radio DJs in NYC is what I believe inspired me to be a DJ. Although I dabbled slightly in radio, I didn't like the fact that I couldn't see anyone! Were they turning me up? Turning me down? Turning me off? In my early 20s, I hung out in the clubs with my roommate who was a DJ in some of them. Beside him in the DJ booth of one of the larger clubs, was the M.C./light man/announcer. That was a cool job! He went on vacation one time and I was asked to fill in for him. They said, "You've seen him work enough. You can handle it." I thought I would just be the light man. On my first night, the owner shoved a mic in my face and said, "It's all yours!"
The guy never came back from vacation and the job was mine! I would be on stages introducing acts in front of hundreds of people, but it wasn't enough. I wanted to be the one making everyone dance. I wanted to call the shots! After a year or so, the club would close for 3 months for a remodel and rebrand. A buddy of mine owned a hole-in-the-wall Irish bar in this nothing-to-do town in upstate NY. He asked me to come in and DJ two nights a week, a rock night and an oldies night. Far from the music I was used to in the club, but this was my chance!
One night the owner of that first club where I M.C.'d walked in the door of this Irish bar and says, "I heard you were DJing here. I didn't know you could DJ. I drove here to watch you." The rest is history. I got offered the DJ gig at what was, at the time, the absolute hottest nightclub in the area! A year or so after that, while I was working one night, I was "discovered". The owners of a prominent mobile DJ company in New Jersey walked in and asked me if I did private events, like weddings. I said no, but I thought that's what I'd been waiting for, so I listened. This could be the coolest gig ever! I worked for them until the owners split up and made me choose between the two. I chose neither and in 1992 I started M.C. Fish and Associates. In 2007, at the advice of some people who know way more than I do, I upgraded and incorporated to become M.C. Fish Entertainment, Inc. I added wedding and event planning to the mix. Each year, it seems more and more things in the industry change. Technology, of course, but what started out as simple sound equipment and a personality became monogram lighting, up lights, photo booths, TVs and then all that planning and advice! I still get to see a few celebrities along the way. Just now I get to entertain THEM! Still the coolest gig on the planet!
Anyway, this is me! My name is Dave. Let's go BLOW THE ROOF OFF THE JOINT!
